The conventional steel wire ropes used regular round shape of single wires and are classified by the number of strands and single wires in each strand. The more the number of strands and single wires, the more flexible of the rope and better bending fatigue life. However, the diameters of single wires may reduce and thus the life time against abrasion will be worse.
The conventional steel wire ropes can also be classified by FC or IWRC core. FC core ropes are more flexible but are not stable against crushing and they are not suitable to be used under high temperature environment. |
